Youths numbering around 450 from the four neighbouring villages Phungcham, Paorei, Varangalai and Peh have cleared the roadsides from Talui Junction to Peh a distance of around 22 km on Monday.

President of Peh Youth Organisation, Tangsha Kapai said that youths from the four neighbouring villages have taken up the initiative as the roadsides have been covered with shrub and bushes, making it difficult for the villagers to commute by vehicles to Ukhrul District Headquarters.

President of Phungcham Katamnao Mayar Ngala Long (PKMNL) Yarmiso Hongchui expressed gratitude to MLA Khashim Vashum, Ex-MLA and Former Deputy Speaker of Manipur Preshow MK Shimray and Retd IAS Ningam Chamroy for extending financial assistance. He added that the youths from the four neighbouring villages could carry out Monday’s social work because of their concern and assistance.

President of Paorei Youth Organisation, Wisekey Khaleng stated that clearing of the roadsides started around 10 am and continued till evening. He also expressed gratitude to those vehicle owners who had rendered service in transporting the youths to the sites.

In spite of the incessant rain, a large number of youths could be seen carrying dao and clearing the shrub and bushes that have almost covered the roadside at different portions. It is not the first time that the village youths have taken up such an initiative. In fact, it has become a yearly event for the villagers to clear the roadsides as the road is almost covered with bushes and shrubs with the onset of monsoon.

Some of the youths asserted that this kind of initiative also brings unity and cohesiveness among villages. The participants parted by partaking in a grand dinner together at Paocham Government High School.
