Tangkhul Long USA reaches out to Covid-19 victims

The Tangkhul Long USA extended financial assistance to Covid-19 victims of Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts Sunday. Convenor of Tangkhul Co-ordination Forum on Covid-19 (TCFC) Tuisem Kamkara handed over the money to the family members of 55 victims on behalf of Tangkhul Long USA at the premises of District Hospital Ukhrul.

President of Tangkhul Long USA Lummi Kaping in a message conveyed that “Covid-19 has brought untold miseries to every nook and corner of the world. It has also brought untold sufferings in our livelihood, irrespective of rich or poor. Looking back home, we have seen many of our people being treated in hospital due to Covid-19, and we have also witnessed community coming together and raising funds to fight the disease.”

He further said, “It is heartwarming to see churches, society and individuals preparing foods for the patients and frontline workers. We praise God for the magnanimous service.”

“Tangkhul community, residing in different parts of the United States of America, has also contributed in different capacities. With the formation of Tangkhul Long USA, the Longnao has come up with an initiative to extend financial assistance to the families of Covid-19 victims and has raised fund amounting to Rs 6,30,344 as a financial assistance for distribution to the families of Covid-19 victims from Ukhrul and Kamjong. Hope this little contribution reminds you that you are in our hearts in your times of pain and sadness. That, we are praying for you.”

“Elders from the Oglala Lakota Sioux tribe living in Pine Ridge of South Dakota also contributed with prayer and money.

“We are dedicating the Bible Verse Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my strength and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-whom shall I be afraid”. May we continue to take care of each other during this time of pandemic such as keeping safe distance and wearing masks.”

Tuisem Kamkara expressed gratitude to Tangkhul Long USA for their financial assistance. “The concern and love shown by them during this trying is once again a reminder that we are fighting this pandemic together,” he said.

The Tangkhul Long USA extended financial assistance amounting to Rs 5,000 each to the families of the 55 Covid-19 victims from Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts covering both locals and non locals. They also gave Rs 80,000 to All Tangkhul Medicos Association (ATMA), another Rs 80,000 to Covid Care Centre Ukhrul and Rs 25,000 to Covid Care Centre Kamjong. The organisation has also utilised Rs 1,70,344 for education grant, livelihood and others which was implemented by MNM Foundation.
