Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) on Tuesday organized a walkathon in solidarity with the Rengma people’s long-standing aspiration and demand for upgrading Tseminyu sub-division to a full-fledged district.

According to a statement issued earlier by RSZ president, Kenneth Kath, the walkathon was organised to implore the state government to expedite the process for the creation of Tseminyu district and also to register its resentment over the lapse of 73 years since the creation of the Bench Court, Tseminyu in 1948 which has remained a sub-division till date.

The walkathon covering a distance of 58 kilometres was flagged-off at NH-2 in Tseminyu sub-division at 3 am and culminated at Naga Solidarity Park, near Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima, in the evening.

Altogether 73 participants took part signifying 73 years of Statehood and 58 Km milestones signifying 58 years of establishment of Tseminyu headquarter.

During a culmination programme at the Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, in the evening, the RSZ also submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland chief minister, Neipiu Rio.

The memorandum stated that Tseminyu district creation is yet to see the light of the day despite going under scanner by several committees in the past. It pointed out that the marathon walk was a reminder of the people’s long-standing aspiration and struggle for Tseminyu district.

The RSZ through the memorandum to the Nagaland government further called for considerate and timely action towards the “justified cause” and to renew the people’s faith in fairness and justice.
