Federation of College Teachers’ Association, Manipur on Thursday urged the prime minister and union education minister to direct the state government to implement the 7th UGC Pay as it is a national policy and helped in transforming the collegiate education in Manipur.

FEGOCTA has sent separate representation to the prime minister and the union education minister.

“After 4th Cabinet approvals since 2019 and despite the Order of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 on 3rd July, 2021, the 7h UGC Pay is still not implemented in Manipur,” stated a release by FEGOCTA.

It was mentioned in the letters that teachers in Manipur are feeling discriminated against and demoralised. It is due to the failure to implement the national policy of 7th UGC Pay in Manipur. Without agitations the state governments including Arunachal Pradesh and Assam implemented 7th UGC Pay in 2018. 7th Pay of the other employees of the Manipur government was implemented in 2019. Further it is mentioned that it is election season in Manipur and to intervene for the interests of higher education, the release stated.

FEGOCTA also appealed to all the concerned authorities and stakeholders to act for ensuring the implementation of national policy of UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 in Manipur.

The association also warned that if the government fails to issue UGC Pay slips by November 27, 2021, the college teachers will go ahead with their agitation plan as announced by FEGOCTA. If there is disturbance in academic activities after November 27 in the colleges, the teachers should not be blamed, it added.
