Amidst the fertilizers crisis being faced by the farmers of Manipur, Manipur Loumi Lup, a farmers’ association, demanded resignation of agriculture minister Oinam Lukhoi. The association criticised the minister for his inability to distribute fertilizers in time and having no empathy towards the plights of the farmers.

Manipur Loumi Lup, in a release on Wednesday, said that a representation will be sent to the prime minister in this regard.

The release said that although Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pushing to double the income of farmers by 2024, the state agriculture minister is working on the contrary. Due to ineffective policies by the minister, the farmers are facing huge problems. The minister who is unable to perform his duties should be sacked, it added.

Stating that the opposition grilled the minister in the recent assembly session, regarding the scarcity of fertilizers in the state, Manipur Loumi Lup said that it was clear that the artificial scarcity of fertilizers in the state occurred due to the minister’s ineffective and inefficient policies. Although we have been trying to meet the minister to discuss the issue, the minister has not given any appointments, it added.
