Kanaan Veng murder case: Churachandpur police announce reward for information on accused

The police sought cooperation of the public and requested them to avoid spreading panic and rumours while allowing due process of law to follow.

Churachandpur police have identified the three accused persons in connection with Kanaan Veng murder case. Thangsonlal Guite (30) also known as Jimmy s/o JK Suan Guite of Bungmual, Churachandpur was found in a pool of blood inside a private residence on Trinity Road, Kanaan Veng on January 12

Police sought help form public in obtaining information of the whereabouts of the three accused persons identified as Chinkhenthang s/o Thomsong from Bungmual, Paukhansuan (26) s/o Chinkhanmang and Thangchinlian (36) s/o H Khanpiang, both from from Kanan Veng, New Lamka, Churachandpur.

They are still absconding in relation to Trinity Road, Kanaan Veng murder case, police said.

Any person giving information leading to arrest will be suitably rewarded and their identity would be kept confidential, it said. The police also requested the public and CSOs to co-operate with the police and avoid spreading panic and rumours and to allow for the due process of law to follow. At the same time it is to be noted that anyone harbouring the offenders will face stern action as per the law and will be held liable, it warned.

Churachandpur Police Station received information on January 12, 2021 that there was an unidentified body found at the residence of one Paukhankhual (28) s/o Kaichinpau in Kanaan Veng New Lamka. A police team rushed to the spot and cordoned off the house to protect the scene of crime. FSL team from Imphal was requisitioned to conduct thorough inspection and collect relevant evidence. The body was later identified as Thangsonlal Guite (30) also known as Jimmy s/o JK Suan Guite of Bungmual, Churachandpur. A regular case, FIR No. 05(01)2021 CCP-PS u/s 302, 34 IPC r/w 25 (1-C) Arms Act was registered at Churachandpur police.

Subsequent spot interrogation, eyewitnesses statement and police investigation has revealed that on the day of the incident two persons had come to collect a weapon, hidden at the residence of Paukhankhual. The two persons were identified as Thangsonlal Guite (the victim) and Chinkhenthang s/o Thomsong from Bungmual. Paukhankhual was arrested and he has revealed that the weapon was given to him by one Paukhansuan (26) s/o Chinkhanmang from Kanaan Veng, New Lamka, Churachandpur for safe keeping, the release added.

Based on further investigation it was revealed that immediately after the incident one Thangchinlian (36) s/o H Khanpiang of Kanaan Veng, New Lamka, Churachandpur had visited the scene of crime and helped Chinkhenthang escape from the scene of crime and kept him at a safe location. Subsequently, Section 120(B) IPC was added to the case. A massive manhunt was launched to locate the following three persons in connection with the case.

Continuing with the investigation, raids were conducted at suspected locations to nab the three accused. During the subsequent investigation, it was found that Thangchinlian was in touch with Thangzamuan Tombing (49) s/o I Nengthang of Dorcas Veng, Churachandpur, and was being instructed by the latter against surrendering to the law enforcement agency. Thangzamuan Tombing was therefore arrested after following due procedures and after confirming and substantiating the evidence against him, for which the Magistrate has given nine-day police custody. In addition to 120(B) IPC, section 212 IPC was also added to the case for harbouring offenders of a serious crime.
