Delimitation Demand Committee for the NE states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur & Nagaland (DDC-NE) has been constituted to carry forward and steer the movement for early implementation of Delimitation exercise in the four NE states.

Habung Payeng and WL Hangshing have been nominated as Convenor and Co-Convenor of DDC-NE respectively while Advocate WR Zimik, J Maivio, T Misao, LS Kipgen and Dr Alana Golmei have been nominated as members.

The new committee came up after the meeting of various organizations’ representatives and elders held at Hotel Amaltas in New Delhi on November 20.

In the meeting W.L. Hangshing, IRS (Retd) exhorted all-affected communities to come together and join hands to fight for our rights and justice.

Habung Payeng and Advocate WR Zimik briefed the participants on the purpose of the meeting and background of the Delimitation issue concerning the four NE states which has been inordinately and discriminately delayed.

Some participating members condemned the procrastination of the Delimitation exercise and step motherly treatment meted out to the people of the four NE states without any credible reason by the authorities concerned.

The newly-constituted committee decided to submit Memorandums/Representations to the authorities concerned for carrying out Delimitation exercise in the four NE states at the earliest.

It resolved to organise democratic movement/public demonstrations in Delhi & back home to demand for early Delimitation exercise. The committee will file a legal suit in the form of PIL in the Supreme Court of India for justice. The committee will raise & mobilize funds and resources by all these states and affected communities through their own organizations.

The DDC-NE may work in tandem/consultations with the parallel Committees already in existence and working for the same cause back home (in the four states), the meeting resolved.
