Nagaland’s IPR Advisor Toshi Wungtung passes away

A state funeral will be accorded on July 3 at his residence at Purana Bazaar, near Zion Hospital, Dimapur at 8 am to pay respect and homage to the departed leader.

MLA and Advisor, IPR, SCERT, and Village Guards, Nagaland, Toshi Wungtung, has passed away on Thursday morning in New Delhi.

He was 56 and is survived by his wife. Late Wungtung was reportedly undergoing treatment for post-COVID-19 complications at a private hospital in New Delhi.

Nagaland Chief Secretary, J. Alam, in an official communiqué has informed that the State Government would accord State funeral to late Toshi Wungtung at his residence at Purana Bazaar, near Zion Hospital, Dimapur, on July 3 at 8 AM to pay respect and homage to the departed leader.

The communiqué informed that the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dimapur, and Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur, will receive the mortal remains of late Toshi Wungtung on July 2 at around 1.50 p.m at Dimapur Airport and make necessary arrangements for transporting the mortal remains to the residence at Purana Bazaar, Dimapur.

Cabinet ministers and State officials would also be present at the airport to receive the mortal remains. It also stated that after the State funeral, the mortal remains of late Toshi Wungtung will be airlifted by State Helicopter from Dimapur to Shamator Town where the last rites would be performed for which the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Tuensang would make necessary arrangements at Shamator Town.

Meanwhile, a prayer service for the departed leader was held at Nagaland House, New Delhi, where Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, with his colleagues in New Delhi attended and paid their last respects.

The service was presided over by Chaplin, Naga Christian Fellowship (NCF), Delhi. A native of Shamator under Tuensang district in Nagaland, late Toshi Wungtung entered the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) for the first time in 2018 when he was elected as a representative from 57 Shamator-Chessor Assembly Constituency.
