MP Leishemba Sanajaoba meets DLOs in Ukhrul for Champhung village development

Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Leishemba Sanajaoba visited Ukhrul Headquarters on Wednesday and had a close door interaction and discussion with District Level Officers (DLOs) of the district in regards to village development plan of Champhung Model Village under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY).The visiting MP was accompanied by MLA of 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency Khashim Vashum.

MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has adopted Champhung village as model villages under SAGY. It is said that the Manipur royal family had a close relationship with Champhung village back in the olden days.

SAGY is a rural development programme broadly focusing upon the development in the villages which includes social development, cultural development and spread motivation among the people on social mobilization of the village community. The programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan on October 11, 2014.

The objective is to create models of local development which can be replicated in other villages through funds from the existing schemes, such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, and Backward Regions Grant Fund including The Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), The gram panchayat’s own revenue, Central and State Finance Commission Grants, and Corporate Social Responsibility funds.

The village development plan includes establishment of a health and wellness centre at Champhung by posting of doctors (MBBS) weekly including nurses and paramedical staff; purchase of essential equipment, instruments and furniture, consumable drugs and medicines; and construction of accommodation (quarters) for doctors and hospital staff.

It plans to provide increasing access to basic health facilities- medical examinations and health cards like CM gi tengbang. The village development also includes improvement of all inter village weather roads in the Champhung village. It aims at improving nutrition status for all, with special focus on children, adolescents, girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers; and establishment of a water supply system at Champhung village and water ATM. Upgradation of UJP school at Champhung and establishment of Smart Junior School and improvement and up-gradation of  Champhung playground in upper primary grounds.

It also aims at reducing risky behavior- alcoholism, smoking and substance abuse. Establishment of an eco-tourism centre and garden at Champhung and many other such plants which will be implemented by different departments.

The discussion and interaction programme was attended DC Ukhrul, Joseph Pauline Kamsom, SP Ukhrul, Saujanya Singh, ADM Ukhrul, David Kashungnao, CEO ADC-Ukhrul, Polly Makan, SDO Jessami, Kachamthai F Gangmei, SDO of Chingai, L. Thangal, SDO of LM Block, Nimmi Khamrang and heads of various departments of Ukhrul District.
