Nagaland, the land of festivals off late has been into many issues latest being the killing of an endangered hornbill bird by some individuals at a place under Wokha district, Nagaland.
According to a source from the wild life division, Dimapur, Nagaland has been celebrating the Hornbill festival in honour of the majestic bird internationally but sadly it was a sorry site to see the endangered bird was reportedly captured (trapped) and tortured to death while many were seen video recording and taking pictures which were later uploaded in the social media drawing flaks from many.

“The reported torture and killing of the endangered species is under investigation,” said the official source who coincidently happens to be the overall incharge to oversee other districts in Nagaland while also adding that action (s) would be initiated against the culprits involved in the horrific incident.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the culprit (s) have been booked under relevant Section of the law under the Wild Life Protection Act (WLPA). It may be mentioned that the Nagaland forest department has been continuously conducting different awareness programmes but lamented that due to “human ignorance” on many occasions, capturing or trapping and killing of wild animals has been the issues to be pondered in the state. Bhandari police had apprehended the culprits after which the case was shifted to Wokha PS.
