Zeliangrong Heraka Youth and Cultural Organization (ZHYCO), Guwahati unit has sought help from concerned individuals for the victims of the massive landslides in Dima Hasao district of Assam, particularly for the family members of the Zeliangrong tribe who were washed away in Hokai Pungchi.

With many parts of northeast India experiencing incessant rains coupled with land and mudslides for the past many days, three Nagas including a minor girl from the same family died after their concrete RCC building was washed away by landslide at Hokai Pungchi, Haflong, under Dima Hasao district, Assam, on last Saturday afternoon (May 14).

Narrating the sequence of the unfortunate incident, Zeliangrong Heraka Youth and Cultural Organization (ZHYCO), Guwahati unit president, Atabe Mgame, informed this correspondent that the father and daughter duo were inside the house while the mishap occurred and the other male member, who was a close relative was also swept away while trying to rescue the duo.

The three victims have been identified as Pauransuilenge Zanme, Kisetteung Zanme, while the minor girl has been identified as Nchilungle Zanme.

Late Kisetteung Zanme was reportedly holding the post of president, Zeliangrong Heraka Youth and Cultural Organization (ZHYCO), Haflong Zone, Assam.

The three bodies were laid to rest at Haflong on May 15 after a brief funeral service.

Meanwhile, it was also informed that mother of the minor child identified as Nchinglungle was also critically injured and is undergoing treatment at Haflong civil hospital.

It may be mentioned that in Dima Hasao district, the Haflong railway station was completely flooded with rail tracks totally inundated. After the Indian army and air force were engaged in rescue operations after many passengers were left stranded.

Landslides were reported from Haflong-Hokai Pungchi, lower Haflong, Bethany, New Kunjung in Dima Hasao, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
