The road between Chalwa and T. Vaichong Sub Divisional Headquarters which was temporarily closed in the morning by the JMDC has been opened in the afternoon after clearing the debris by the JMDC.
However, the landslide that occurred at Phoikon village today will be clear by tomorrow according to the JMDC.
The debris owing to the mudslide at Lamlenkon near T.Vaichong Sub Divisional Headquartered that inundated a vast section of Imphal-Tamenglong road could not be clear till today as the mudslides still continue at the place.
An earth crack also reportedly appeared at Rijaltahar in Irang Part-II causing heavy damage to a residential house belonging to Gyan Bahadur Adhikari.
The only optional connectivity for the people of the Twilang area at present is the PMGSY road from Chawangkining to T.Vaichong Sub Divisional Headquarters via Tapon.
However, a few yards of the road near Gorkha Tapon is on the verge of crumbling down owing to the landslides.
The JMDC of I.T. Road sincerely thanked the concerned Executive Engineer and contractor for continuously clearing the debris as and when any landslides occurred along the PMGSY road.
The swelling Irang river, more popularly known as the Twilang river by the locals had also completely damaged the water tributary of Chalwa paddy fields at Vangchomphai and Jaopi area.
JMDC Chairman, Lutngam Manlun said that almost all the paddy cultivators in the area especially from Chalwa village depend on the water tributary damaged by the swelling Twilang river while adding that if the tributary is not restored most of the cultivators would be able to cultivate their paddy this year.
He appeals to the authority concerned to seriously consider restoring the damaged water tributary of the paddy fields at the earliest before the paddy sowing season arrived.
