Condolences pour in as AMSU publicity secretary passes away

Wangkheimayum Rimakan was ill for some time and was being treated at Apollo Hospitals, Guwahati. As his condition deteriorated, he passed away on Sunday early morning.

All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) condoled the untimely death of its information and publicity secretary Wangkheimayum Rimakan, who died due to an illness. As many from the student community took to social media to mourn his death, members of the student body paid floral tribute and the flag of the student union was flown half-mast. 

Wangkheimayum Rimakan was ill for some time and was being treated at Apollo Hospitals, Guwahati. As his condition deteriorated, he passed away on Sunday early morning. His body was brought to the AMSU HQ, DMU campus. His friends and student activists paid an emotional farewell to the departed. His body was later cremated at his home place at Uripok Sinam Leikai. 

Born on October 7, 1994, Rimakan was the eldest son of Wangkheimayum Kunjabi and Wangkheimayum (O) Sumati. As he was studying in DM College of Science, he has been a member of AMSU since 2013-14. He was the assistant secretary, joint secretary, and vice president of the Imphal West district committee of AMSU. Elected as information and publicity secretary for the session 2021-23, he had also worked in various committees and was a valued member.

On the other hand, The Thoubal District United Womens’ Development Organisation (Thoubal IMA) also condoled the death of Rimakan. Apart from working for the welfare of the student community of the state, he stood for the integrity of the state and worked towards it, Thoubal IMA said in a statement sharing the grief of the bereaved family.
