Bangalore Manipur Students’ Association celebrated the auspicious festival of Ningol Chakouba on Sunday in Bengaluru, Karnataka. 

The main highlight of the occasion included a grand feast with the Ningols, BMSA had invited. The members of the student body also presented gifts to the Ningols and in turn they blessed the members, as the tradition goes. 

BMSA secretary general Lourambam Rambo thanked all those who had contributed in organising the festival. 

Ningol Chakouba is an age-old festival of Meiteis, celebrated on the second day of the Meitei lunar month of Hiyanggei. The womenfolk went to their natal home, where the brothers and parents hosted a grand feast, usually involving fish curry. 

The festival is being celebrated by Meiteis residing in different parts of the world, carrying forward the purest bond of brothers and sisters. Recently, the festival has been celebrated cutting across different communities and religions. Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh even hosted Ningols of the 32 indigenous communities of the state on the occasion this year.
