Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh led in condoling the demise of former MLA Dr. Irengbam Ibohalbi Singh.
In a message, CM Biren said, ‘I am deeply aggrieved to learn about the sad and untimely demise of Dr. Irengbam Ibohalbi Singh”.
Dr. I. Ibohalbi began his political career from Manipur People’s Party (MPP) and then joined All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Indian National Congress (INC) and North East India Deve Party (NEIDP). He was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2012 from Oinam Assembly Constituency on an All India Trinamool Congress ticket, the message stated.
CM Biren said that during his stint as legislator, he was the ever-vigilant voice of the opposition. He was meticulous in his arguments and a great orator. On his demise, the state has lost a great leader and a valiant politician who contributed beyond measure for the betterment of the society. His departure has left a huge void in state politics, he added.
“On behalf of the Government, I convey my deepest condolence and share grief with the bereaved family and pray that God may give them the strength to bear this great loss,” he added.
On the other hand, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee expressed deep sorrow and sadness at the sudden demise of Dr Ibohalbi.
In a condolence message, MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam said that MPCC remembers his contribution to the Congress Party and the people of Manipur. On his death, Manipur lost a dynamic political stalwart.
“At this hour of grief and sorrow, I extend my deepest condolences to the family members of the former MLA. May his soul rest in peace,” Govindas said.
Dr. Ibohalbi Singh was elected from 25-Oinam A/C in 2007 and 2012. He was a founder member of Bishnupur Lions Club and held many positions in social organisations during his lifetime. He was a Doctor by profession before becoming a politician.
Veteran politician and Congress spokesperson O Joy also condoled the demise of the leader. Joy said that Dr Ibohalbi was a progressive leader.
“I have associated with him and worked together for a few years. He was well educated, intelligent, knowledgeable. I condole and share the grief of the family and friends. I pray for the peaceful rest of the heavenly abode of the departed soul. Void left by him will hardly be filled. I again pray for the peaceful rest of the departed soul,” Joy said.
