As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrating 75 years of India Independence, a team led by Commissioner of Customs (Prevention) NER, Shillong, Gaipuizei Machunlung Kamei visited Ukhrul Headquarters on Wednesday.
In a symbolic manner, Gaipuizei Machunlung Kamei and five members of the team planted fruit trees at Mini Secretariat Complex, Hamleikhong, Ukhrul. The visiting team was warmly received by Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Joseph Pauline Kamsom, Additional District Magistrate of Ukhrul Kachamthai F Gangmei and officers of District Administration.
Sources informed that the team is visiting various districts of Manipur and north-east region as part of their tour programme. The visiting team left for Nagaland after visiting Ukhrul Headquarters.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi flagged off the ‘Padyatra’ (Freedom March) from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad on March 12, 2021 and inaugurated the curtain raiser activities of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (India@75). The Prime Minister stated that the launch of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ 75 weeks before August 15, 2022 will continue till August 15, 2023.
