With an aim to make a room for critically analysing the society through reading books and to inculcate the habit of reading and critical thinking instead of just focusing solely on classroom texts and syllabus, a week-long book fair cum interaction programme began on Tuesday, organised by The Readers Bookstore in association with Ultimate Library and Coaching Institute at the institute premise located at Tuibong, Churachandpur.
Wide range of books from children, adult, academic, fiction, non-fiction, Northeast and Marxist literature are available at the book fair.
Speaking to media persons, The Readers Bookstore co-ordinator Furkan Makakmayum said that the store has always wanted to know the reading habits of people outside the Imphal valley. The ultimate motive of the store is that books should be easily accessible and there should be no limit of reading, he added.
Interactive sessions with Jangkholam Haokip on ‘Colonisation, Identity and Search for peace’ and author talk on ‘Ei-le-Ei-kal Ah’ by Thangkhanlal Ngaihte were held on the first day.
The Readers Book Store inside the Manipur University campus provides a range of books on humanities and social sciences.
