Ukhrul: Credit Union Complex cum Office Building Inaugurated

Founded in 1998, today the Credit Union Ukhrul is one of the most trusted and well established Union in Ukhrul District. The determination and vision of the members is worth emulating by one and all.

The shopping complex cum office building of Credit Union Ukhrul at Phungreitang, Ukhrul was inaugurated on Monday by Rev. Remember Rimai, Pastor Union Baptist Church in the presence of President of Credit Union Ukhrul, Avai Horam, GM of Credit Union Ukhrul, Luckson Kengoo, President TSL, Thingreiphy Lungharwoshi, President TMNL, Somatai Machinao, President TLL, Peacemoon Zimik, President UDPSA, R. Tungshang and other dignitaries and members of Credit Union Ukhrul.

The foundation stone for the complex cum office building was laid on October 11, 2018 by Rev. Ruichumhao Shimrah, Pastor Viewland Baptist Church.

Rev. Remember Rimai dedicated the complex and office building and unveiled the plaque. He stated that “Credit Union Ukhrul with a vision for the future has come out with the needs of the people. It is a process of nation building. Let us all extend maximum cooperation even in the days to come.”

President of Credit Union Ukhrul, Avai Horam in his presidential address stated that “the three societies that is Fraternal Thrift Society, Haofia and Livestock Development Society came together and merged as one and formed the Credit Union Ukhrul in 1998. We gave loan for business and we also extended financial assistance to students for their further studies. Our target is to create and open one mini bank at Ukhrul Headquarters.”

GM of Credit Union Ukhrul, Luckson Kengoo recalled that “In 1998, the three society merged and formed Credit Union Ukhrul. I was paid Rs. 5000 annually as remuneration in the first term and Rs. 10000 in the second term. The journey and struggle has been memorable. There were many loan defaulters and the Union was running in deficit at one point of time. I am grateful to God for allowing me to see the fulfillment of our dreams through this building today.”

Dr. Ngahorshai Luithui, work in-charge informed that “around Rs. 3 crore has been spent for the construction of complex cum office building. The five storeys complex consist of 41 rooms.”

Managing Trustee of SEAT, TK Shimray exhorted that “in order to live a dignified life, our community need to have skill. Skill in traditional weaving, skill in traditional rearing of livestock and other traditional skills. This was the main reason why the three Societies came together and merged as one and formed the Credit Union Ukhrul in 1998 and uplift the living standard of our community. Financial literacy awareness and knowledge to the members is very important for the succesful implementation of the Union’s visions and objective.”

The building has a conference hall, a space for a cafeteria, shopping space besides their office.
