Recreational Park Inaugurated At Phungcham Village

Phungcham is located about 28km from Ukhrul Headquarters. The love story of Shimreishang and Maitonphi is heard far and wide, and in memory of the two legendary lovers, a park and a statue have been erected and it is maintained by Yangreiram Beautification Society (YBS) since 2015.

The Recreational Park constructed inside the premise of Shimreishang and Maitonphi Park at Phungcham Village, Ukhrul District, was inaugurated on Wednesday.

Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) have assisted in levelling of ground for construction of “Recreational Park” within the premise of Shimreishang and Maitonphi Park at Phungcham Village.

The members of Yangreiram Beautification Society of Phungcham village had approached the Somsai Battalion Assam Rifles, requesting for levelling of ground for construction of a recreational park inside the fame Shimreishang and Maitonphi Prak. The need for levelling of ground for construction of recreational park was projected by the Battalion to motivate the children and youth of the village and tourists and prevent the youth from indulging in anti social activities.

Col Manoj Shinde, Commandant of 35 Assam Rifles, Somsai on Wednesday, inaugurated the “Recreational Park” in the presence of Wungnaongam Horam, Headman of Phungcham.

Iping Zimik, Secretary of Yangreiram Beautification Society informed this correspondent that “the Assam Rifles has assisted in leveling the ground for the construction of Recreational Park by deploying earth digger machine for 7 days free of cost. Today, we are very fortunate to have Col Manoj Shinde, Commandant of 35 Assam Rifles, Somsai inaugurating the Recreational Park. We once again express immense gratitude to the Assam Rifles for the effort and assistance they have put in for the betterment of Village.”
