Ukhrul Celebrates 76th Independence Day

Folk dance was performed by cultural troupes from Nungbi and NYK. Folk Musician and Artist, Thotreisho Keishing also presented folk songs. Nepali dance was presented by troupes of Gurkha from Ukhrul. Pipe band was displayed by the 35 Assam Rifles.

At 09:50 hours, Superintendent of Police of Ukhrul, Ningshem Vashum gave the general salute followed by inspection of parade of contingent. At 09:50 hours, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar hoisted the National Flag and address the gathering at Bakshi Ground, Ukhrul.

SDPO of Jessami, Jadumani Singh, (MPS) was the parade commander.

Speaking at the occasion, DC of Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar highlighted the various development works being taken up in the district. He further enlightened the various welfare scheme provided by the central and state government for the well being of the citizens.

Krishna Kumar appeal the gathering to uphold good thing of the district and appeal the populace to contribute for smooth and peaceful development. He also urged to citizens of Ukhrul to hoist the Indian national flag to commemorate the 76th independence day celebration with joy and meaningful celebration.

As part of the celebration, the chief guest distributed certificates of appreciation to the best performing Department, staffs and security personnel.

The programme was attended by ADM Chunglenmang Kipgen, CEO David Kashungnao, DFO Shangnam Shaliwo, Treasury Officer Ningreingam Shinrah, DLOs and public pf Ukhrul Headquarters.

A total of 16 contingents including took part in the independence day parade competition. NCC Model High School was declared the winner of parade competiotiin. The parade contingent of Kendriya Vidyalaya and NCC Ukhrul Higher Secondary School was declared the second and third position respectively.

As part of the celebration, friendly football match was played between DC XI and SP XI. SP XI defeated DC XI. Various stalls were open at the venue such as Forest Department, One Stop Centre (OSC-Ukhrul), UDCRMS, Soyam Foods, Shirin Products, MS Lori Ham Pottery, Sonthui Foods and Tribalgoo.
