Two Tamil auto drivers from Moreh shot dead in Myanmar’s Tamu

Though reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, a report claimed that it could be the handiwork of military-backed Pyu Saw Htee.

Two Tamilians from Manipur’s border town Moreh were shot dead near a Buddhist Temple at Tamu Ward no.10 in Myanmar around 12.30 pm on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as L. Mohon (27 years) S/o. (L). Perumal Moreh ward No. 2 Gamnom Veng and M Iyanar (28) s/o. (L). Murga from Moreh ward no. 4 Phaicham Veng. Both were auto drivers, said sources, adding they went to Tamu to visit their friends.

Their bodies were still at Tamu Hospital in Myanmar, the sources. Their families could not receive the bodies till the filing of this report.

Following the murder, all community leaders in Moreh held an emergency meeting at Tamil Sangam. the two Tamil youths. They approached the Moreh Police to help in retrieving bodies. However, police expressed their helplessness as the border has been sealed since the outbreak covid. The victims had trespassed on Myanmar which is reeling under political turmoil under a military junta, sources said.

The community leaders are reaching out to their friends to retrieve the bodies.

Meanwhile, shopkeepers in Moreh town shut down their shops condemning the murder. All Moreh Auto Owners & Drivers Welfare Association, Moreh parked their autos at Sunrise ground in Moreh Ward no 5 and stayed off the roads in protest against the murder.
