Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur State Committee decried the recent statement of Khurai AC MLA Susindro that from next month free rice will not be given to those who have not been vaccinated. The rice, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) scheme is distributed by the central government and no one can disrupt it, the left party asserted.

CPI (M) Manipur State Committee secretary Kshetrimayum Shanta maintained that the statement of the MLA is an assault on the rights of the people. Maintaining that people are also eager to get inoculated to prevent COVID-19, Shanta said that many are facing problems like long queues and travelling to vaccination centres.

Shanta also criticised the state government for not being able to accelerate the process of vaccination in the state. There is also not enough stock of vaccines, he added. MLA Susindro should instead urge the government to procure more vaccines and speed up the process, he added.
