Two persons from Manipur were arrested at interstate checkpoint in Nagaland on Tuesday and 11 kg of suspected opium worth over 10 lakh recovered from them, said a source on Wednesday.

According to the source, the arrested persons were identified as Ngashanngam Sharon (30 years), S/o Hormi Sharon, R/o Longpi, PO/PS- Chingai, Ukhrul district of Manipur, and Kholounü Pukhomai (19 yrs), S/o Dole Pukhomai of Phubatapham, PO/PS Tadubi, Senapati district of Manipur.

Personnel of Nagaland Police Narcotic Cell manning interstate Narcotic Checkpoint at Khuzama, Kohima, intercepted a white colour Maruti Swift Dzire bearing registration number OD15E 8073 on September 7, 2021. The vehicle with the two occupants was bound for Kohima from Senapati, Manipur, said an official.

The narcotic team recovered 11 packets of suspected Opium weighing approximately 11 Kgs concealed inside a specially designed compartment in the rear bumper of the vehicle. The consignment is worth around Rs.11 lakh, it added.

A case has been registered under sections S 18(b)/60 NDPS Act and investigation is on, it said.
