Tangkhul Naga Long seeks cabinet berth for Ukhrul district

Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex body of Tangkhul community has appealed the concerned authority for allotment of one cabinet berth for Ukhrul District to sustain inclusive and peaceful co-existence.

The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) in a press release has called upon the concerned authority for allotment of one cabinet berth for Ukhrul District to sustain inclusive and peaceful co-existence.

The press release stated that “In the recently concluded Manipur State Assembly Election 2022, NPF got a total of 5 seats beating 2017 record of 4 MLAs. The increase in the number came from Ukhrul District with 3 elected NPF MLAs.

“For the last two decades, Ukhrul District has been denied ministerial berth. CSOs from Ukhrul District has appealed to the concerned authority for allotment of 1 cabinet berth for Ukhrul District for inclusive and peaceful co-existence.

“At this juncture, we earnestly request the concerned authority/individuals to consider the sentiments and hopes of the people for holistic development.”

NPF Ukhrul Division on Monday has also written to President of NPF, Central Office, Kohima for a cabinet ministerial in favour of Ukhrul District. “Taking into consideration of the people’s sentiment, a joint sitting was convened comprising of all the three Area Units under Ukhrul Division in the party office to urge upon the President of NPF, Central Office Kohima to advice CM N. Biren Singh to select an MLA from Ukhrul District for a cabinet berth in the interest of the people.”

Inspite of a clean sweep by the NPF in Ukhrul Division, by electing NPF MLAs from 43-Phungyar, 44-Ukhrul and 45-Chingai, the President of NPF, Central HQ, Kohima, Shurhozelie Lietzetsu on Monday has recommended the name of Awangbow Newmai from Tamenglong and L. Dikho from Senapati for a cabinet berth in order of merit No. 1 and 2 respectively followed by Khashim Vashum and others.

It is worth mentioning that even in 2017 election, Ukhrul District has elected 2 NPF MLAs, but none were alloted a ministerial berth. CSOs from Ukhrul District has repeatedly appealed to the concerned authority for allotment of 1 cabinet berth for Ukhrul District.
