Student bodies and CSOs continued to condemn the bomb blast at All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) Office Headquarters, DMU Campus, Imphal. The incident occurred around 7:20 pm on June 8, when an unknown miscreant came in a scooter and lobbed a hand grenade inside the office campus.

Strongly condemning the incident, Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) in a release on Friday said that it is an attack on the student community.

Established in 1965, AMSU has played pivotal roles in several crucial issues of the state, said MUSU. Maintaining that lives have been sacrificed by the student body in fighting for several causes of the state, MUSU appealed not to repeat such acts in the future.

The Mizo student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), in a release on Friday said that the incident was extremely unfortunate. MZP also strongly condemned the shocking incident that took place at the office of its counterpart AMSU in the Northeast Students’ Organization (NESO).

“It appears that AMSU is taking bold steps on important and sensitive issues to protect and uplift the indigenous people of Manipur that has prompted a bomb blast in its office. MZP strongly condemns the heinous act which tries to suppress the voice and activities of AMSU,” it stated.

MZP also appealed to the authorities to take a prompt action to give stringent punishment to the culprits. Mizo Zirlai Pawl will take any necessary steps to go hand in hand with fellow student bodies in the Northeastern states, it stated and also expressed its solidarity and gives full support to AMSU.

On the other hand, the Shillong Manipuri Students’ Union (SMSU), also strongly condemned the “barbarous terrorist” attack on AMSU Office Headquarters, DMU Campus, Imphal.

“It was an unfortunate incident and such an act of terror against the student is indeed an attack to the dream and future of the student community. The union appeals to those responsible for the attacks in the AMSU Union office to stop disturbing the peace and fraternity of the students immediately,” it added.

The union further appealed to chief minister N Biren Singh to ensure the faith of the students and people of Manipur in general and take stern action against the miscreants.

Meanwhile, the Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) also strongly condemned the incident.

CADA, in a release, said that AMSU as one of the oldest student movements in the state has been in the forefront fighting on several issues. It has been struggling to bring about quality education in the state. It is an institution which has been working towards building a personality conducting leadership training etc, it added.

“There is no reason to believe that the perpetrators are short-sighted and working for their own personal benefits. The time has come for the people to stand against such wrong actions,” CADA said.
