STDCM stresses on necessity of respecting sentiment of Meetei community

STDCM held its annual general body meeting 2022 on Sunday. The underlined the need for a collective decision and unity among the Meitei and Meetei community as it is the question of their existence/survival.

The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) on Sunday organised its annual general body meeting for 2021-2022 at Thangmeiband Athletics Union (THAU)’s hall in DMU Complex, Imphal West. The seventh annual meeting that began at 11 am was presided by STDCM president Dhiraj Yumnam. Chief patron Moirangthem Naodalenkhomba, Adviser Prof Huidrom Jayantkumar, senior member Dr Khomdon Lisam shared the dais with the president.

In the meeting, the committee’s annual report and financial statement were tabled and passed. It resolved to extend the term of the existing executive committee till March 2023 after making some changes and inducting some new members.

Among the key office-bearers of the STDCM, Dhiraj Yumnam will remain as president while Lt. Col. Laishram Lokendra will be Working President and Sinam Manglem, Sapam Bheigya and Keisham Lokeshwar will hold the post of Vice-Presidents.

The Executive Committee was entrusted with the power to replace those office-bearers who were not active due their personal engagement from within the members.

Later an open discussion was conducted to strengthen the movement for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribes’ list. The open discussion stressed on the necessity of respecting the sentiment of indigenous Meitei/Meetei community. It also underlined the need for a collective decision and unity among the Meitei/Meetei community as it is the question of their existence/survival, said a statement issued by STDCM general secretary K Bhogendrajit.
