Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) on Friday staged a protest demonstration at Kwakeithel Bazar demanding to find out the truth behind the death of Sanaton Athokpam and also to clear the doubts in the minds of the people.
DESAM secretary general Leisangthem Lamyanba said that the student body does not take the matter lightly. DESAM also condoled the death of a student in a suspicious manner.
He also urged the government to prove that the land is under the “rule of law” properly investigating and conducting trial of any accused. The enquiry should not be conducted in a suspicious manner and the report should be made public at the earliest, he asserted.
DESAM also condemned the government’s silence on the matter even after a month. The government should not “invite” for intense agitation, he warned.
An MBBS student of RIMS, Sanaton Athokpam of Khurai Thangjam Leikai was allegedly found hanging inside his hostel room on March 15. The Justice for Sanaton has been spearheading the protest.
On Thursday, Sanaton’s father Tikendra called upon the public, CSOs, student body, amongst others for help in finding out the truth behind the death of his son.
