COVID-19 Update: 1783 healthcare workers vaccinated in Manipur

Four sessions have been conducted for the vaccination drive that began on January 16. In the first phase a target of 9469 healthcare workers has been chosen.

1783 healthcare workers out of the targeted 9469 healthcare workers have been inoculated with the COVID vaccine (Covishield) in Manipur as of 1 pm report on Friday. And so far there has been no serious adverse effects apart from mild complaints. 

The remark was made by state immunization officer Dr Nandakishor at the weekly COVID-19 press conference held at the conference hall of the Directorate of Health Services, Lamphelpat on Friday. The press conference is jointly organised by the directorate and National Health Mission, Manipur. 

Health Services director Dr Rajo informed that at present the vaccination programme is underway at ten civilian centres and one military at the Army base camp at Leimakhong. The programme is being conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays as per the instructions from the Union government to make sure that other activities of the healthcare centres like immunisation and OPD are not affected, he added. 

JNIMS director Dr Lokeshwar and RIMS deputy MS Dr Sachin Deva who were inoculated on January 16 gave their testimony on the aftereffect of the vaccination. Both of them said that they experienced mild fever the night after getting inoculated. But it was gone in the morning and they attended to their office, according to them. They also assured that the vaccine is safe and urged the public not to be hesitant in getting vaccinated when they get the chance. 

Dr Sachin Deva also said that of the 404 healthcare workers who were vaccinated from RIMS so far, only 26 individuals developed minor problems which didn’t require hospitalization. 

Health Department additional director and spokesperson Dr Sasheekumar Mangang, National Health Mission director Dr Shyamjai and other health officials also attended the press conference. 

As of Friday, the number of active cases is 197 (General Population – 189 and Central Security Personnel – 8). The cumulative number of positive cases stands at 28,953 (General Population – 25,534 and Central Security Personnel – 3.419) with the recovery rate of 98.04 %. The deadly virus has so far claimed 369 lives in the state.
