Row over Sanaton’s Death: CSOs, Meira Paibi groups endorse 24 hour total shutdown

A medical student at RIMS, Sanaton Athokpam of Khurai Thangjam Leikai was allegedly found dead in his room on March 15. JSA and family members have been alleging that Sanaton was murdered.

Several CSOs and Meira Paibi groups are endorsing and supporting the 24 hour total shutdown called by Justice for Sanaton demanding justice for the medical student of RIMS who was allegedly found dead in his hostel room on March 15. The 24 shutdown will start from 6 pm on April 26. 

Iramdam Kanba Lup (IKAL), Union of Social Upliftment, Women Association for Socio Economic Development (WASDEV), Nongpok Leingak Apunba Lup, amongst others have endorsed the total shutdown. They also demanded justice for the death of Sanaton Athokpam, the medical student, and demanded the government to reveal the truth behind the death at the earliest.  

Meanwhile, Meira Paibi groups of four Leikais of Kongpal Lai Hidenda — Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, Kongpal Kongkham Leikai, Kongpal Ningthoubung Leikai, and Kongpal Khaidem Leikai staged a sit-in on Sunday. It was supported by the Industrious Students’ Association, according to a release by JSA. They have extended their support to the 24 hour total shutdown.
