Ukhrul Fire Service is badly in need of a water tanker and additional fire engine and staff. However, the rapid response of the fire tender is being appreciated by Ukhrul residents.

A fire broke out at Awungtang, Ukhrul near Savio Higher Secondary School at around 6:30pm on Sunday and completely razed the building belonging to Okthotya Sareo. The fire was put under control at around 7:40pm.
Doctors at Ukhrul District Hospital informed that the owner of the house, Okthotya Sareo suffered 30% burns. He is being attended by doctors while filing this report.
Ukhrul Fire Service used three fire trucks to douse the fire. Refilling of water service was given by 6th MR and PHED, Ukhrul by employing their water tanker. One officer and 20 personnel of 27 Assam Rifles were also involved in dousing the fire. The 27 AR used five fire extinguishers of 5kg and five fireballs in controlling the fire from spreading further.
Ukhrul DC Joseph Pauline Kamsom rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
It was Tangnao, the first responder, who came with a bucket of water and helped in dousing the fire. Private tankers also joined in supplying water to douse the fire that has been raging for more than an hour.
Since there is no tanker for refilling the fire engine, the firefighters were facing lots of inconveniences in refilling their tanker and fighting the fire. They had to waste lots of precious time refilling their fire engine.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
