The United All Communities’ Social Uplifters (UNACSU), Kangleipak/Manipur, on Monday came down heavily on the Oting massacre in which Indian security forces killed at least 13 civilians on December 4. UNACSU also called upon the brethrens of Northeast to unite and put an end to such killings under the garb of AFSPA once and for all.

UNACSU, in a release on Monday, showed its respect to the departed and shared the grief of the families.

The Manipur-based CSO asserted that such incidents may happen in any Northeastern states, while maintaining that this is not the time to let it go. The time has come to do away with the community-centric mindset, it added.

Stating that such killings by Assam Rifles are not new to the region, UNACSU said that it is part of the atrocities meted out against the Northeast people ever since the region became a part of India.

While AFSPA, 1958 has been imposed in the Northeast for the last many decades victimizing the people, the endless killings and atrocities are a “gift” to the people of the region, UNACSU asserted.

“It won’t be an exaggeration to state that the people have been leading a slavish life, instead of questioning the design of the Government of India. For how long will the people lead such a slavish life?” it asked.

UNACSU further maintained that it is high time for the people of the region to unite and search for a definite and concrete solution to end such killings and atrocities.

“We believe in the fact that no united movement of the people has failed, and it is one of the valuable lessons history has taught mankind,” it said, while adding that UNACSU will extend its support to protests against the Oting massacre.
