The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Manipur held a candlelight vigil on Monday for the victims of the massacre at Oting, Mon District Nagaland at Kangla Gate in Imphal on Monday.

In a press release signed by national youth president of National People’s Party (NPP) Ratika Yumnam, NPYF expressed deep shock and anguish at the brutal killings of 15 innocent civilians in Oting, Mon District of Nagaland on December 4 and December 5, 2021 by India security forces.

The inhumane act of mercilessly shooting unarmed civilians is nothing short of a massacre. The arrogance of citing “mistaken identity” as an excuse for the killings is a direct insult to the victims and their families, it said.

“The NPYF stands with the people of Oting and across Northeast voicing our strong opposition to such acts of gross human rights violations.

“We reiterate our commitment to protect the people of our region, the Northeast, from such abuse and violence. We demand and urge the Union Government to repeal AFSPA at the earliest and establish an enquiry commission with transparent processes to investigate the incident and to bring justice for the victims.”

The NPYF Manipur also condemned the killing of innocent civilians by security forces at Oting, Nagaland. In a press release signed by its president L. Jayananda Singh, NPYF Manipur said the incident was clear and gross violations of human rights in the Northeast part of India.

Appealing to the Government to repeal or remove the AFSPA, 1958 under whose strength such crimes are committed, NPYF Manipur said it is quite a matter of concern that draconian and outdated acts like AFSPA are still present in the region. “Many such crimes have been committed under the shadow of this Act. NPYF Manipur will stand by the victims. It demands the Government to probe into the matter and punish everyone involved. The Front also demands restoration of peace at Oting at the earliest,” it said.

NPYF convey deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Many people attended the candle light vigil held today at Kangla Gate, Imphal. Participants could be seen holding banners with slogan such as “We stand with Oting” “Repeal AFSPA” etc.
