The district of Shamator would comprise of the areas which included existing administrative area of Shamator sub-division under Tuensang district, existing administrative area of Chessore sub-division including Mango EAC Circle, Tuensang, administrative area of Sotokur EAC Circle, Tuensang, excluding Chingmelen, Helipong, and Sipongsang villages.

Nagaland Governor has approved the upgradation of Shamator into a district. A notification to this effect was issued on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that Nagaland State Cabinet recently approved the creation of Shamator sub-division under Tuensang district as the 16th State in Nagaland, and also recognizing “Tikhir” as one of the recognized tribes,
A communiqué issued by Nagaland Chief Secretary, J Alam, stated that the district of Shamator would comprise of the areas which included existing administrative area of Shamator sub-division under Tuensang district, existing administrative area of Chessore sub-division including Mango EAC Circle, Tuensang, administrative area of Sotokur EAC Circle, Tuensang, excluding Chingmelen, Helipong, and Sipongsang villages. The headquarters of the new district will be Shamator town.
It was also notified that Tsurungto EAC Circle under Shamator shall also include Hutanger, Anatongre, Pungrungru, Nutsu, Maihpok, and Tsuthu villages under Kiphire district that stand transferred to Tsurungto EAC Circle.
The notification is being issued in pursuance of the decision of the Cabinet conveyed through its letter No.CAB-2/2013 dated January 20, 2022, of the Cabinet Secretariat (Cabinet Cell).
