Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday observed that drugs bring with it darkness, destruction and devastation.
In a statement on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the prime minister lauded all those working at the grassroots to eliminate the menace of drugs from the society. Every such effort to save lives is vital, he added.
“Let us reiterate our commitment to share facts on drugs and realise our vision of a Drugs Free India. Remember – addiction is neither cool nor a style statement,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi also shared an episode of an old Mann Ki Baat episode which contained many aspects of overcoming the drug menace.
Meanwhile, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh also addressed the state, through a video message, on the occasion.
The theme of this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is “Share Facts On Drugs, Save Lives”. The theme aims at combating misinformation and promotes sharing the facts on drugs — from health risks and solutions to tackle the world drug problem, to evidence-based prevention, treatment, and care.
