Manipur logs highest-ever COVID-19 spike in 24 hours with 600 fresh reports

Manipur on Friday hit the grim milestone of 600 fresh infections, as the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage in the state. The state has been reporting triple-digit figure daily new cases in the last couple of weeks.

As per the IDSP Manipur update, 3,421 test results were received on Friday.

The number of active cases has now surged to 3,506 — General Population 3,330 and Central Security Personnel- 176. At present there are 2,194 active cases on home isolation.

In the past 24 hours, 576 persons (307 male and 269 female) from the general population and 24 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases, according to the Health Department.

A majority of the new cases were reported from Imphal West (208) and Imphal East (166). The other positive cases from the general population are from Thoubal (40), Churachandpur (34), Bishnupur (33), Ukhrul (22), Tamenglong (19), Kakching (18), Senapati (17), Chandel (7), Noney (6), Kangpokpi (3), Kamjong (2), and Tengnoupal (1).

In the last 24 hours, two persons aged 47 years (male, Kakching) and 65 years (female, Imphal East) expired at JNIMS hospital. The cumulative number of deaths has now reached 449.

A total of 83 patients — Home Isolation (53), JNIMS (1), RD Wing (13), CCCBB (2), Churachandpur DH (1) and SHRI (13), were discharged in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate is 88.48 %.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 34,333 (General Population 30,685 and Central Security Personnel 3,648). 

According to the Health Department, in the last 24 hours, a total of 762D type Oxygen Cylinders and 192 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur.

Air passengers who travelled to the state on May 3 by Air India flight AI-3713 in rows 12- 18 have been instructed to inform the Common Covid Control Room 1800-345-3818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) for further surveillance and necessary testing.

As many as 2,51,099 individuals in the state have been vaccinated so far, out of which 74,232 have received the second dose.

Meanwhile, India reported 4.14 lakhs new COVID-19 cases and 3,915 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry. 3,31,507 patients were discharged during the period.

The active cases now stand at 36.45 lakhs. The number of the total cases in the country has reached 2.15 crore and 2.34 lakhs deaths.
