Let this new year empower the government and the civil society organisations so that their collective war on drugs, which could not go beyond the interests of the rich may go beyond that point, liberating society from the danger of drugs.

With the arrival of 2021, I would like to wish everyone a new year, marked by peace, harmony, unity and growth. Let this bring about a world where no one oppresses any one, a year that sees no injustice and no corruption, unlike the years that have gone by. Let the old year take away the enmity between people and the animosity between the different communities in the state. May the new year wipe away all those evil social forces that survive by sucking the blood of the disadvantaged section of the society.

As an ordinary citizen of the state, I would like the state government to adopt a new year resolution to ensure that all the people of Manipur have access to the health facility so that no one dies because they are unable to buy healthcare. I wish that the ruling class of the state would come up with new policies that would enable all children from the hills and valleys receive quality education, children of the state open a new dimension to the state’s way of developing human capital.

Let us all be committed this year to head on the road of bringing a new society where there is no socioeconomic inequality. I wish the radical class of society would also be firm on the ongoing reproduction of social inequality, making a few privileged people wealthier and the rest of the poor people poorer.

Let this new year empower the government and the civil society organisations so that their collective war on drugs, which could not go beyond the interests of the rich may go beyond that point, liberating society from the danger of drugs.

This is the day we all have to pledge and stand up against all forms of corruption and oppression, beginning to build a new society where everyone lives with dignity. Let us resolve today to put society above self-interest.

Starting this year, I wish all politicians, irrespective of their political affiliation, join hands to make the state move ahead politically, culturally and socially.  It is also hoped that lawmakers will continue to work more transparently and honestly, so that the next generation can see politics positively again.

Besides, let us all commit to begin a new history in which the entire ethnic group coexists in the state as a single entity unified in spirit and intent. At the same time, let new energies be pumped this year to lift all the inhabitants—the hill dwellers and the valley settlers—to vow to save the indigenous people of Manipur from the large open mouth of the immigrants.

I wish this new year will give us a new understanding that the people of the hills will stop suspecting the people of the valley, and vice versa, to make it easier to resolve any dispute between the two in the past in a win-win situation treasuring ethnic brotherhood.

Let us finally pledge to make this year a year, which gives us all the wisdom to resolve every social issue democratically and inclusively. Now the time has come to unite all the people of Manipur, cutting across the ethnic lines and taking on the responsibility of making Manipur a place where we can all live a peaceful, prosperous and meaningful life. So, let us make this our collective New Year’s resolution.
