Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nameirakpam Loken on Sunday exuded confidence that Congress will come to power with absolute majority in the upcoming state general election.

Loken was speaking at the launching of a campaign song for the upcoming Manipur State Assembly elections at Congress Bhawan, Imphal.

The MPCC president criticised the BJP led Manipur government stating that apart from some initiatives like Chief Minister gi Hakselgi Tengbang (CMHT) and distributing cooking gas connections, the state government did not take up any other works.

“During the previous Congress regime, it conducted many examinations under the Manipur Public Service Commission and provided jobs to many educated youths of the state. But during the BJP rule, it failed to provide any jobs to the youths,” he asserted. Even though BJP is in power at the Centre and Manipur, it did not benefit the people of the state, he added.

Loken also accused BJP of threatening the people as they know that the Congress party is “coming back to power with absolute majority”. Although many flags and banners of BJP were seen before the announcement of the poll date, now no-one knows what the BJP candidates are doing, he added.

Former chief minister O Ibobi Singh

Speaking on the occasion, former chief minister and CLP leader O Ibobi maintained that after listening to the campaign song people will realise the difference between BJP rule and that of Congress, which he said stood for the people of the state.

Urging the people to analyse the developmental works taken up by the BJP government during its tenure, Ibobi maintained that the only visible thing during BJP rule was the frequent visits of its central leadership, without announcing or taking up any development projects for the state.

“The aim of the BJP is to install a dictatorial government in Manipur and destroy democracy,” he asserted.

Ibobi further maintained that there are no representatives of minorities and women in the BJP led Manipur government. ADC elections for the hill areas were also not held, he added.

AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das,  chairman of Screening Committee and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh, and CWC Member Gaikhangam were also present during the programme.

On the occasion of this program Manipur State Social Media Department ran a twitter trend #ManipurWithCongress.

AICC Social Media Department national convener Pranav Vachharajani and State Social Media chairperson Malemkhomba Salam gave credit to the team and Congress volunteers for their hard work and dedication.
