The protestors are demanding the government to appeal to a higher court and re-investigation into the 2018 multi-crore drug haul case.

On Friday, Kyamgei Youth Pioneer Club (KYPC) and Kyamgei Heibong Makhong Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup jointly organised a sit-in at Kyamgei Heibong Makhong, Imphal East, according to a release.

Speaking about the issue, Kyamgei Heibong Makhong Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Lup secretary AK Ibeyaima said that even a child would not trust the judgement and added that people do not accept the fact that no evidence were found to convict Lhukhosei Zou from whose official quarter a huge amount of drugs were seized.

Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) vice president Ningthoujam Doren urged the government to appeal to a higher court to dispel the mistrust amongst the people and to punish the drug smugglers according to the law.

KYPC secretary Laishram Roben said that until the drug smugglers are punished, the youths will continue to drown in the sea of drugs. The effects of abusing drugs is greatly felt in developmental works, he said and assured that KYPC will support CADA’s campaign against drugs.

The release also said that slogans against the acquittal of Lhukhosei Zou and others were also shouted at the end of the sit-in.
