Legal fraternity bids adieu to Imphal West CJM Somorjit who passed away after road accident

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, Manipur Yengkhom Somorjit Singh S/o. Y. Kunjababu Singh of Kakching Mayai Leikai died in a road accident near Uningkhong, Thoubal District on Sunday. He was 46 and is survived by his wife and three minor children.

According to sources, an SUV in which Somorjit was returning from his hometown Kakching to his posting place Imphal rammed into a stone block near Uningkhong along NH 102 near Wangjing at around 8.30 PM. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Thoubal Hospital. He succumbed to his injury, said doctors.

Imphal West CJM Somorjit

Somorjit did his graduation from Dhana Manjuri College of Arts in Political Science. He was topper in his batch. After completing his graduation, he proceeded to Delhi for higher studies. But faith had it, instead of taking admission for Masters in Political Science in Delhi University, he enrolled himself for Bachelor’s Degree in Law in Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in the year 2000. After obtaining a Law Degree, he returned home and practiced for a few years as an advocate.

Somorjit was one of the successful candidates of Manipur Civil Services Examination and he joined as Sub-Deputy Collector in December 2012. But in the following year 2013, he joined the Manipur Judicial Service. His first posting was Civil Judge Junior Division/Judicial Magistrate First Class, Moreh. Later, he was transferred to the High Court of Manipur as Deputy Registrar (Judicial). In the year 2017, he was transferred on promotion and posted as Civil Judge Senior Division, Imphal East. In the year 2020, he was again transferred and posted as Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West.

Somorjit was also general secretary of All Manipur Judicial Officers’ Association (AMJOA). He was, as a person, very helpful and accommodating. In spite of his busy schedule, he managed to find time for everyone. Under his leadership as general secretary of AMJOA, a well-furnished office of AMJOA was inaugurated at Cheirap Court Complex in the year 2021. Many initiatives for the welfare of Judicial Officers were also taken under his guidance.
