HC judgment electing Erabot as MLA lesson for erring politicians: CPI

The judgment will enlighten those who are new to politics and caution the rich who thought they could win election by buying voters using the money power without knowing the law of the land, it said

The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council on Friday welcomed the judgment electing Y Erabot as the MLA of Wangkhei AC and lauded the Manipur High Court. “It will serve as a lesson to those politicians who are suppressing the law of the land,” it added.

The CPI, in a release on Friday, also said that the judgment will enlighten those who are new to politics and caution the rich people who thought they could win election by buying voters using the money power without knowing the law of the land.

The CPI convened its “largest meeting” on Thursday at Irawat Bhawan, Imphal. The meeting was attended by Dr Nara, Lala, Sorojini, Okram Ibotombi, amongst others. CPI state council secretary L Sotinkumar presented the draft political and organisational report, the release added. 

The meeting discussed varied important issues of the state. The mass campaign focusing on — National Food Security Act (NFSA), Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), menace of drugs in the state, excessive use of money power in elections, and farmers’ issue, was also thoroughly discussed, it added.

The CPI also urged the government to protect the Myanmar nationals fleeing to the Indian side. India and Manipur should act like good neighbours. The party also expressed dismay at the silence of the government on the reported fleeing of at least three journalists to the state.

The release also stated that the meeting also discussed the movement of the Seventh Fleet of the USA in the Arabian Sea near the Lakshadweep. It is against the international law, it added.
