Haobijam Chalamba sworn in as new AMSU president along with others

The new president asserted that AMSU will join any effort to save the unity of the state.

New office bearers of the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) for the session 2021-2023 were sworn-in at the union’s head office inside the Dhanamanjuri University Campus, Imphal on Friday. 

Haobijam Chalamba, the new president, assured that the student body would continue its efforts to guide the students in the right direction. AMSU would also lend its support to the effort of educating the wards of the government’s employees to government run schools and colleges, he added. 

On the menace of drugs in the state, the new AMSU president said that the student body would launch an awareness campaign in educational institutions. 

Chalamba also said that efforts will be made to include the history of the state in the syllabus. Stating that some private schools are allegedly forcing students of Class X and XII to stay in the hostels before the exams, he asserted that the student body will look into the matter seriously. AMSU will join any effort to save the unity of the state, he added. 

Former AMSU president Leihaothabam Saratchandra who attended the swearing-in ceremony as the chief guest warns that people will lose their trust in student bodies if they steer away from its primary objective of working for the welfare of the students’ community. He also advised the new office bearers to continue the good work of the student body.  

The other office bearers who were sworn-in included vice presidents Athouba Laishram, Salam Open, secretary general Thongam Bikramjit, finance secretary Pebam Jet, organisation secretary Bijando Yumkhaibam, publicity & information secretary Wangkheimayum Rimakan amongst others. A total of 17 new office bearers were sworn in.
