District Election Officer, Bishnupur Ranjan Yumnam on Wednesday called upon political parties and intending candidates from the district for a peaceful poll campaign in the upcoming state assembly election.
Ranjan Yumnam made the appeal while chairing election preparedness review meeting at the Conference Hall of Bishnupur DC Complex attended by ROs, Nodal Officers and representatives from political parties from the district. The DEO further appealed full cooperation of all for a free and fair conduct of election during the meeting.
Highlighting law and order situation and security arrangements in the meeting, Bishnupur SP N Herojit Singh expressed confidence for a smooth conduct of election from a security point of view. Sufficient security personnel including CAPF will be deployed in the district for maintaining law and order in the upcoming election, he informed.
Stating that arms deposited in the district currently stands at 64%, Herojit reminded licensed gun owners to deposit fire arms at the nearest police station. Discouraging applications for arms exemption, the SP maintained that life threat from someone is not sufficient ground for arms exemption but a criterion for license application.
Responding to an apprehension from one of the political party representative on undue influence of Central Armed Police Forces deployed for election duty, Herojit assured political party representatives that stringent mechanisms will be enforced to prevent CAPF from being influenced by locals through force or otherwise.
Replying to another query on deployment of adequate security arrangement for critical polling stations, the SP assured political party representatives that necessary measures will be adopted based on the vulnerability mapping by the District Election Office.
During the meeting, shifting of several polling stations in dilapidated conditions to better equipped locations, expenditure monitoring, media monitoring and covid contingency plans among others were also discussed. H. Bobby Sharma, AC to DC and  Ejaj Hassan, AC to DC also attended the review meeting.
