Upset about poor quality and faulty alignment, the Sambu Raiping Long (SRL) has stopped the ongoing black topping work of PMGSY road from Shirui to Kachouphung. The decision was taken only after the SRL Executuve paid a spot visit on December 21, 2021, said a press statement.
“The SRL has been continuously appealing to the concerned authority to rectify the faulty alignment. Inspite of repeated appeals, there has been no positive response from the concerned authority. Instead they have started black topping of the said road” stated Lungshim Kasar, President of Sambu Raiping Long
He informed that the Minister of Works had also visited the area on April 4, 2021 and had given assurance in front of the public, MLA of 44-Ukhrul AC, Chief Engineer, DC Kamjong, DC Ukhrul and CSO leaders of the area that the faulty alignment will be corrected at the earliest and the demand of the public will be met. He had addressed the public on the need of bringing development as per the need and wishes of the public. However, the tall promised and assurance given by the Work Minister is yet to be carried out in action till date.”
The Sambu Raiping Long stated that ” if necessary rectification of faulty alignment and diversion of road is not carried out before January 10, 2022,  the SRL will be compelled to take up necessary action in the forms of agitation.”
“The PMGSY road from Shirui to Kachouphung is the only lifeline of 30 villages bordering Indo-Myanmar. The people from the area has been demanding for all season-weathered road. The people have been facing lots of hardships and inconveniences due to the pathetic condition of the road especially during rainy season” added Masopam Kasar, Secretary of SRL.
It is worth mentioning that during the cabinet meeting at Ukhrul held on June 4, 2019,  MLA Alfred Arthur has remarked that specification of PMGSY road from Shirui to Kachouphung was not followed. He mentioned that a ” nose dive road” of about 3-4km stretch is being constructed under PMGSY and calls for rectification of the error and change of alignment. In regard to this, CM Biren Singh has instructed the concern department to immediately construct motorable road at the earliest. “People are suffering,  this has to be given top priority” stated CM N Biren. However, even after such instruction no rectification has been taken up and people still continue to suffer.
