The Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) opposing Nagaland government’s plan to relocate Dimapur Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday staged a peaceful mass citizen’s rally to remind the state government of its earlier ultimatum submitted through the DC, Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan.
Attended by thousands representing various tribal bodies and different communities, the rally commenced from the Holy Cross police point, Dimapur, and culminated at DC’s office, where the leaders submitted a
reminder letter to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, seeking response from his office in regard to the ultimatum served to Nagaland chief minister on September 29.
The CSOs said that the failure of state government to fulfill the ultimatum served to the chief minister before on October 4 was the reason for the peaceful protest called by them.
It may be mentioned that earlier on October 2, the CSO Core Committee in a meeting unanimously decided and strongly demanded that the Nagaland government reconsider the September 7 order issued by principal
secretary, Home, government of Nagaland.
The newly formed CSO’s core committee had also resolved to reaffirm the ultimatum submitted earlier on September 29 to Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio. Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, after meeting the leaders of the CSOs at his office complex informed them that he had already forwarded the last ultimatum to the state government and also
assured them that he would do the same to Tuesdays’ reminder for further perusal.
The CSOs have also requested the DC not to move anything from the present DC office till government’s verdict is received.
Earlier, the rally started with a mass prayer led by Pastor, Hindi Nagamese Baptist Church, Burma Camp, Dimapur, Rev. Dilip Singh.
Meanwhile, when contacted, CSOs core committee convener, Kuhoi Zhimo, informed this correspondent rally was peaceful and added that the CSOs have learnt that a cabinet meeting was held on Tuesday in Kohima
where they discussed on government’s decision of the already created ADC post at the new DC complex, Chumukedima, but not on shifting of DC’s office. He said the CSOs are hoping for a positive response from the Nagaland government in the next few days.
