Health Services, Manipur director Dr K Rajo on Friday said that the present trend of COVID-19 infection suggested that it has spread predominantly towards the rural areas of the state.

Dr Rajo was speaking at the weekly media briefing at the Directorate of Health Services, Lamphelpat, Imphal.

He cited a recent study by IDSP, Manipur between July 21 and 27. Out of 1,987 positive cases in Imphal West, 79 per cent were from rural areas of the district. Similarly, in Imphal East, 73.02 per cent of 2,035 positive cases were from rural areas of the district. He also suggested that the reason for the spread may be because people in urban areas mostly adhere to COVID appropriate behavior (CAB).

Dr Rajo also said that in the valley, Imphal West continues to report the majority of the new cases, followed by Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Thoubal. Amongst the hill districts, Churachandpur reported the majority of new cases, followed by Chandel, Kamjong, and Noney.

The house-to-house testing has been initiated in all the districts of the state, except Ukhrul, he informed. Between July 10 and 29, a total of 31,579 individuals were tested from 16,225 households. Out of these, 3,031 were confirmed as COVID positive.
