COVID-19 deaths inch closer to 1000 mark though Manipur sees dip in daily infections

The state reported 459 new cases, the lowest daily spike in 27 days, with total infections crossing 60,000. In the last 24 hours 5 pm Monday, the State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported 16 COVID-19 deaths, taking the death toll to 990.

Mortality rate remained a cause of concern for Manipur as the State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported 16 more COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours on Monday, taking the death toll to 990. However, the state was witnessing continuous fall in daily Covid-19 infections and reported 459 new COVID-19 cases — lowest in the last 27 days — out of 5,257 tests. The daily positivity rate stayed below 10 per cent at 8.73 per cent.

Four individuals from Imphal West, three each from Imphal East, Thoubal and Churachandpur, two from Bishnupur, and one from Kakching died at RIMS (2), JNIMS (6), Shija Hospital (5) and DH Churachandpur (3).

Out of 8,443 active cases in the state, 2,969 are in home isolation at present.

Daily recovery continued to take over the daily spike for the third day in a row. On Monday, 499 persons were discharged, out of which — 336 from home isolation, 30 from RIMS (24) and JNIMS (6) and the rest 133 from other COVID care facilities. The recovery rate has slightly improved to 84.35 per cent.

Imphal West continues to report the majority of fresh cases with 136 new cases on Monday. The other positive cases from the general population are — 78 from Bishnupur, 77 from Thoubal, 39 from Imphal East, 29 from Kakching, 26 from Ukhrul, 22 from Churachandpur, 10 each from Chandel and Tamenglong, nine from Senapati, seven each from Tengnoupal and Kangpokpi, and two from Pherzawl.

The total number of infections in the state now stands at 60,311 and 50,878 individuals have recovered so far..

Oxygen Status

According to the Health Department, in the last 24 hours, a total of 1,451 D-type Oxygen cylinders and 413 B-type Oxygen cylinders were made available to different health facilities of Manipur. District Hospitals and government institutions have 333D and 64B filled cylinders; out of these —
