An accused in a sexual assault case of an eight-year-old minor has been apprehended by Moreh police.
The accused has been identified as Mangminlal Touthang (33), S/o Hemthang of Mission Veng, Moreh Ward Number 2. He was allegedly on the run since the incident, police said.
Speaking to media persons at Moreh PS, OC Dilipkumar said that a report about a sexual assault of a minor was received from PHC Moreh on June 10. Since then, the Moreh police led by SI J Baite and SI K Tungnung had been on the hunt for the accused who was absconding after committing the alleged crime.
On receiving a specific input about the presence of the accuse in general area of T Bongmol village, which is located in the remote part of Tengnoupal district, the police team led by SI J Baite immediately launch an operation in general area of T Bongmol village at around 12 midnight and apprehended the accuse at 12:30 am on Monday from T Bongmol village. The police team who transport the accused to Moreh reach the Moreh police station at 2 am.
FIR No. 24(6) 2021 MRH-PS U/S 6 POCSO Act of 2012 has been registered against the accused, according to the police.
