ADC Bill 2021 row: Student bodies call indefinite economic blockade along National Highways from Nov 22

ATSUM, ANSAM, KSO-GHQ and ATSUM federating units took the decision to impose the indefinite economic blockade during a meeting on Friday to deliberate the way forward activities of the ongoing “The HAC recommended ADC Bill 2021” movement.

All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM), All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO-GHQ), and federating units of ATSUM resolved to impose indefinite economic blockade along the National Highways of Manipur from November 22, 2021, in connection with the contentious Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Bill, 2021. 

ATSUM, ANSAM, KSO-GHQ and ATSUM federating units held a meeting on Friday at ATSUM office, Adimjati Complex, Imphal, to deliberate the way forward activities of the ongoing “The HAC recommended ADC Bill 2021” movement, according to a statement. 

While reiterating the demand for convening a special Manipur Legislative Assembly Session to tuble the HAC recommended ADC Bill 2021, the meeting resolved to serve an ultimatum to the state government to meet the demand within seven days of time starting from November 13, 2021. Failing to pay heed to the demand, a 24-hour total shutdown shall be enforced in the entire hill districts of the state on November 20, 2021. 

Further, it was resolved to impose an indefinite economic blockade along the National Highways of Manipur state from November 22, 2021, the statement stated. 

ATSUM chairman Paotinthang Lupheng chaired the meeting. He welcomed and implored the members present in the meeting to share thoughts/opinions on ways/means of intensifying and sustaining the movement until the desired result is achieved. After thorough discussion, the meeting unanimously adopted the resolutions, it added.
