Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) condoled the demise of former ministers Laisom Lalit and Vivek Raj Wangkhem.
A message by MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam stated that MPCC “plunges in deep sorrow and sadness” at the sudden demise of Congress leader Laisom Lalit. He was a distinguished political leader and served as President, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee from 1980 to 1985.
Laisom Lalit represented Keishamthong AC in 1985 and also served as minister. His death is an irreparable loss not to the Congress party alone but also for the people of Manipur, the message stated.
“In recognition of his service and dedication for the party, the party flag remains half-mast. At this hour of grief and sorrow, I do solemnly share the pain and pang of the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace,” Govindas said.
In another condolence message, Govindas said that he was shocked and despaired to learn of the sudden demise of Vivek Raj Wangkhem. He was son of the famous former MLA and filmmaker/actor Basanta Kumar Wangkhem.
Vivek Raj Wangkhem was elected from Kshetrigao AC for two times in 2001 (bye-election) and 2002 and became a minister too. He had also served as national general secretary of National People’s Party (NPP).
“Following the footsteps of his late father, Vivek Raj Wangkhem spent most of his life in politics and serving the people. He also made relentless efforts to promote communal harmony in the state,” Govindas said.
The message further stated that his untimely death is an irreparable loss not only to the party he belongs but also for the people of Manipur. At this hour of grief and sorrow, I extend my deepest condolences to the family members of the former Minister, Govindas added.
