Ukhrul Town woke up to the shocking news of the first COVID-19 death at Ukhrul District Hospital. Around 4:15 am on Thursday, Wepfupelo Wezah (64) of Jessami Village breathed his last, fighting the dreaded disease.
Ukhrul SDO Christianhome Huileng, Ukhrul CMO, Dr Kapangring A Shimray, District Hospital medical superintendent Dr Reisangmi Raikhan, TCFC convenor Tuisem Kamkara, TKS general secretary Yuimi Vashum and TBCA executive secretary Rev Mathotmi Vasha came to see off the body being taken home for burial.
TBCA mission secretary Rev Ayo led the congregation in praying for the well being of doctors, nurses and staff at the District Hospital. The team also visited the COVID Care Centre at Phungreitang, Ukhrul and Rev Mathitmi Vasha said a prayer for the doctors and nurses who are taking care of the patients.
Meanwhile, eight persons were tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday — one from the containment zone and seven from screening at Ukhrul District Hospital. Total active cases stands at 123, out of which 19 patients are in Isolation Ward of Ukhrul District Hospital, 58 in COVID Care Centre, Transit Camp, Phungreitang, Ukhrul, 23 in Jessami Isolation Centre and one in Sirarakhong Community Isolation Centre.
